Cardiff University (CU):

CU was founded in 1883. It is a member of the prestigious Russell Group of Britain's leading research-led Universities. The University is one of the largest employers in Cardiff, with approximately 22,000 students and 5,000 staff. A significant milestone in its history was its merger on August 1st 2004 with the University of Wales College of Medicine.

Members of 'The Virtual Institute' include members of the Connective Tissue Biology Research Group within the School of Biosciences and members of a number of research groups within the School of Medicine. These include the Bone Research Unit, Cardiology, Rheumatology and the Research Centre for Clinical Kinaesiology.
